Product Description

Altaj H is an early hybrid cucumber built for rough climates – named after the Altai mountains, and that is the promise: this variety delivers even when summer does not cooperate. What makes Altaj H special? The resilience. It withstands unfavourable weather and comes with two important resistances: against powdery mildew and cucumber mosaic virus – the two most common reasons cucumber plants suddenly collapse in midsummer. On top of that, it is particularly productive and early. The light green, spiny-type fruits are free of bitterness and made for pickling and preserving: crunchy gherkins, brined cucumbers or quick pickles – harvested small and regularly, they are at their most tender. Frequent picking also encourages new fruit set. Cucumbers need warmth: sow directly only once the soil has reached at least 13–14 °C (from mid-May), or start indoors from late April. Altaj H does best in humus-rich, fertile soil in a sunny spot. Who is this variety for? Outdoor gardeners in rougher regions, pickling fans and anyone who has ever lost a cucumber crop to mildew.
