Product Description

Janosik is an extraordinary Polish watermelon – on the outside a perfectly normal green classic, but the surprise comes when you cut it open: bright yellow flesh. What makes Janosik special? Beyond the wow effect, above all the taste. The yellow flesh is very juicy and remarkably sweet, with a fine honey note that red varieties simply do not have. The fruits reach 3.5–5.5 kg – the perfect size for the home garden and the fridge. Important to know: watermelons are extreme heat lovers and cannot tolerate temperatures below 15 °C. So the rule is: start indoors from late April and plant the seedlings out only after the last frost in a sunny, wind-sheltered spot – outdoors in warm regions, otherwise in the greenhouse or under film. Black mulch film noticeably speeds up soil warming. Harvest in late summer before the first frost. The melon is ripe when the tendril at the fruit base has dried up and the ground spot has turned yellowish – and it sounds hollow when tapped. Who is this variety for? Anyone who wants to draw amazement from guests and children – and gardeners looking for a change from the classic red watermelon.
