Wanda is an early zucchini for anyone who wants to harvest a lot while sacrificing little space – the compact hard worker among bush zucchinis.
What makes Wanda special? The ratio of footprint to yield. The compact bush habit needs no long vines and therefore fits into a raised bed or a large container – yet still delivers high yields across the whole season. The tender green fruits, about 20 cm long, are the kitchen standard par excellence: ideal for frying, steaming, stuffing and pickling.
For an especially early harvest, start indoors from mid-April; alternatively, direct sowing from mid-May works without trouble. Wanda loves sunny, wind-sheltered spots with nutrient-rich soil – zucchini are heavy feeders, and a helping of compost at planting pays off immediately.
Two practical tips: water at soil level rather than over the leaves (helps prevent mildew) and pick the fruits consistently young – that keeps the plant producing for weeks. The flowers are edible too, by the way: stuffed and baked, a delicacy.
Who is this variety for? Small gardens, raised-bed gardeners and families looking for a dependable summer-long supplier.
